It a dull & wet Easter Saturday, the gravel drive outside the window is full of puddles - we should have gone to the Island yesterday while the sun shone! Still, the rain is not stopping the birds as they go about the business of finding food for their young. One day last week I saw a female black bird who looked as if she had a dozen worms in her beak. As the weather warms up I am seeing more of my favourite insects - bumble bees. They just a joy too watch!

Yesterday we walked through one of the many gardens in the City (I'm sorry guys but your chief gardener has the colour sense of a fruit bat or perhaps the seedsmen supply on a pick & mix basis). Anyway, the beds are full of wallflowers with occasional clashing tulip which did not bother the bees or hoverflies. I was pleased see that one of the latter was the species that looks like a small honey bee.
